Across Japan, many dedicated local historians spend years researching the history of their communities. Most are volunteers who publish their work themselves in small numbers. These books often contain information you won’t find in regular history books.
Recently, I found one of these rare books:
“The Rise and Fall of the Sagami Matsuda Clan – Including Their Connections with the Hatano, Omori, and Later Hojo Clans.”
It traces the history of the Matsuda family from the late Heian period (about 900 years ago), explains the origin of the Matsuda surname, and follows how members of the family spread to different parts of Japan.
